The Power of your Metabolism
Natural AidsGuggul
One of the main reasons that people fail in diets is due to the body’s capacity to adapt to any change in their food or environment. The human body is an organism that self-regulates by using the hormonal system as a controlling agent.
Glucose is the primary food for all of the cells in your body. When a person starts a diet, the first thing that the body feels is the lower level of glucose. The body’s first response to the decrease of glucose is to start breaking its accumulated fat to turn it into glucose to feed the cells. This is part of the body’s ability to adapt.
Now, when a diet continues for several weeks, the body notices that the glucose levels continue to be lower than usual. This is a situation that the body seems to interpret as a “time of shortage”. Its reaction to the “shortage” is to conserve energy. Apparently, the body does this to improve its possibilities of surviving during a real or supposed food “shortage”.
The way that the body conserves energy is by reducing the production of the thyroid hormones to slow down the metabolism. In other words, it reduces the production of the T4 hormone and its product, T3. This slows down the metabolism and conserves energy.
It is inevitable for the body to react in this way when doing any diet system: it lowers the production of the thyroid and along with it the metabolism. It is an automatic mechanism that is designed to survive any shortage situation. Any diet tends to bring along with it a certain reduction of the metabolism.
There are different techniques that are used to prevent the body from slowing the metabolism down during diets. All of these help: drinking a lot of water, exercising, using organic coconut oil and taking powerful vitamins.
Other than these techniques, you can help your body avoid the reduction of the metabolism during a diet by using a natural supplement called guggul. This supplement is a resin produced by a tree in India that is known as “commiphora mukul” or “guggulipid”. Hundreds of years ago, guggul was used in India to fight obesity. They didn’t know why it helped fight obesity; all they knew was that it worked.
It was recently discovered that guggul stimulates the production of the thyroid gland hormones. This helps increase the production of the T4 and T3 hormones, which prevents the metabolism from slowing down during a diet.
Guggul contains new active substances called “guggulsterones”, which reduce “bad” cholesterol levels (LDL), while increasing the proportion of “good” cholesterol (HDL). It is already known that hypothyroidism conditions cause increases in cholesterol. When guggul improves the function of the thyroid, it decreases the cholesterol for the same reason. Guggul also decreases triglycerides (fat in the blood).
In 1986 the government of India gave manufacturers of natural supplements permission to advertise their products manufactured using guggul and to promote them as natural medicines to lower cholesterol.
It is obvious that the benefits that guggul provide in reference to slimming down are related to its ability to stimulate the thyroid.
A way to help fight a “slow metabolism” that has been slowed down due to a diet is to take a supplement that contains guggul.
